Frequently asked questions

What is Remote Clipboard?

A shared clipboard in short-lived rooms. Create a room, share its link or code, and everyone in it sees the same text and files, live, in a browser, a terminal or an AI agent.

Why rooms and join codes?

It was inspired by party games like Jackbox, where anyone can join with a link or a short code: no downloads, no sign-in, no stress. Remote Clipboard works the same way for copying and pasting between devices and people.

Is it free?

Yes.

Do I need an account?

No. Public rooms need nothing. Private rooms ask you to sign in with a code sent to your email; there is no password and no account to set up.

What do you keep about me? Is there an account to delete?

There is no account record. Your email address only appears in places that delete themselves: a sign-in code record, deleted within an hour; the invite list of a private room, until the room ends or expires; and your recent rooms list, where each entry goes when its room ends or expires. Nothing we store lasts longer than 7 days, so there is nothing to delete. Your own device keeps your sign-in for 30 days, or until you sign out, and you can clear your recent rooms at any time. See the privacy policy for details.

How long do rooms last?

One hour by default. When you create a room, you can choose anything from 5 minutes to 7 days. A room cannot be extended.

Can I end a room early?

Yes. Any member can end a room with End room in the room, the menu next to the room in Recent rooms, or rclip end in a terminal. It deletes the room and everything in it, for everyone, straight away.

What happens to my files when a room ends?

They are deleted with the room's text and cannot be recovered. Keep your own copy of anything you need.

Who can see my room?

Anyone with the link or code can join a public room. A private room admits only you and the email addresses you invite, once they sign in.

Is my content encrypted?

Yes, in transit and at rest, and it is deleted as soon as the room ends or expires. Anyone with the link can read a public room, so use a private room for anything sensitive.

How do I join from my phone?

In the room, select the QR code button and scan the code with your phone's camera. Or go to remoteclipboard.com on your phone and enter the room code.

What are the limits?

Up to 20 clipboards per room, 10 files per clipboard, 25 MB per file and 100 MB of files per room. Text can be up to 500,000 characters and 1.5 MB per clipboard, and 5 MB per room.

Can I use it from a terminal or an AI agent?

Yes, with rclip, the command-line tool: run npx @elementx-ai/rclip new to create a room. For AI agents, npx @elementx-ai/rclip agents prints a guide to the commands, JSON output and exit codes.

How do I report abuse?

Email support@remoteclipboard.com with the room link and what you saw. The terms of service list what is not allowed.
