# Remote Clipboard > Share text and files between devices, people and AI agents through short-lived rooms. Create a room, open its link anywhere, and everyone in it edits the same clipboards live. It works on anything with a browser or a terminal: laptops, phones, servers, virtual machines and devices like a Raspberry Pi. Rooms delete themselves after 5 minutes to 7 days. Remote Clipboard is free to use at https://remoteclipboard.com. It is made by ElementX, and was inspired by party games like Jackbox: anyone joins with a link or a short code, with no downloads and no sign-in. ## How it works - A room has a short code and a link, https://remoteclipboard.com/r/CODE. Anyone with the link can join a public room. - A room holds up to 20 named clipboards. Each has text and up to 10 files of any type, up to 25 MB each. - Private rooms admit only the owner and invited email addresses. Sign-in is by a 6-digit code sent by email. - Rooms expire after 1 hour by default, and after 5 minutes to 7 days if set. Everything in a room is deleted when it expires. ## Command line: rclip rclip does everything the browser does, from a terminal, a script or an AI agent. It needs Node.js 22.12 or later. ```bash npx @elementx-ai/rclip new # create a room and print its link git diff | npx @elementx-ai/rclip push # put text in the room npx @elementx-ai/rclip pull --room CODE # print it on another device ``` - [rclip on npm](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@elementx-ai/rclip): install with `npm install -g @elementx-ai/rclip`. ## For AI agents Always-on agents, and any agent that can run a command, can use rooms to hand people results, pick up files people send, and pass work to other agents. - Run `npx @elementx-ai/rclip agents` for the full agent guide. - Every command takes `--json`. Results go to stdout as one JSON object; errors go to stderr as `{"error":{"code","message","exitCode"}}`. - Nothing prompts. Exit codes: 0 ok, 1 error, 2 usage, 3 not found or expired, 4 access denied, 5 limit reached, 6 timed out. - To ask a person for input: `rclip new --json`, share the `url`, then `rclip wait --timeout 15m --json`. - To react to every change: `rclip pull --follow --json` prints one line of JSON per change, and reconnects if the connection drops. ## More - [Frequently asked questions](https://remoteclipboard.com/faq) - [Privacy policy](https://remoteclipboard.com/privacy) - [Terms of service](https://remoteclipboard.com/terms): no illegal content, malware, spam or abuse of the service.
